Baptism  Frequently asked questions about baptism:

Baptism is a beautiful part of God's plan for us. In fact, Jesus was baptized as an example for the apostles and for us. The church continues to practice this while offering many rich teachings on this important topic.

Baptism is important.

Baptism is commanded by Jesus.

Baptism is a confusing topic for many today.

Click below for a study on baptism.

What is the meaning of baptism?

It is participation in Christ's burial and resurrection. Jesus died for our sins. He was buried and He rose again. We share his resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) "For when you were baptized, you were buried in Christ. And in baptism you were also raised with Christ." (Colossians 2:12)

Why be baptized by immersion?

Because Jesus was baptized that way. "As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water." (Matthew 3:16) In fact, every baptism in the bible was by immersion. The Greek word literally means to immerse or submerge under water. For example, to dye a fabric you would baptize it. "Baptizo" best symbolizes a burial and resurrection. "You were raised with Christ." (Colossians 2:12)

When should I be baptized?

As soon as you believe and place your trust in Jesus. In Acts 2, people asked Peter about salvation through Jesus. He instructed, "Repent and be baptized."  Those who believed and accepted His message were baptized that very day. Don't delay! (Acts 2:41)

Who should be baptized?

Every person who has believed in Christ. Peter said, "Every one of you!" and meant it. "When they believed Philip they were all baptized, both men and women." (Acts 8:12) Other times entire households were baptized at once!

What should I wear when I'm baptized?

Appropriately modest clothing for getting wet. Most opt for shorts and t-shirts or a swimsuit. Bring a change of clothes, a towel, and a plastic bag for your wet clothes.

Will I have to say anything?

No, you won't have to say anything other than repeat a confession of faith as you are led through it by a church leader. Of course, if you want to make a statement sharing your gratitude and joy you are welcome to.
